CANC on time for Newcastle

If anyone was keen to join CANC in their ride from Newcastle to Sydney, they’re on schedule according to their site. That means they leave Newcastle the morning of Fri 17th. I’m thinking of taking the train to meet them on Fri evening, then riding to Sydney by Sunday/monday. Those who need to be in Sydney for work on Monday can take the train back on Sunday night.

Who wants to come? You’ll need to have sleeping gear - Maurice

Session 2!

Hi everyone, welcome back to Uni.

We’ve got some stuff to sort out - what should we do this session? What is a good time/day for the bike maintenance on the Quad Lawn?

When/how often should we do Campus Joy Rides?

If we get some $, what should we use it for?

Please comment below with ideas and/or show up at 5pm @ Anzac Pde bus stop for ride to Critical Mass this Friday to chat & ride.

See you all soon! -Maurice

Working Bee at The Nunnery Bike Workshop

Working BeeWe are having a nother working bee at the Nunnery to kull bikes and generaly tidy up. The last working bee got a lot of good stuff sorted, like the shed, the tool boards, signs and labeling systems. Yay. Now we’ve simply got too much stuff!! We need your help….

  • kulling bikes for the Petersham Men’s Shed (They make wheelchairs from adult frames)
  • Sending scrap metal off to a merchant somewhere, does someone have a ute?
  • Kulling ‘projects’ that have been unloved too long
  • Sorting out a better opener/closer roster and on sight info for newbies

Okay so I might be interested but what are the deets?

Where: Nunnery (but of course) the backyard of 40 Forbes St Newtown- check out this map
When: 4 till 9.30 every monday for the next month we’ll be kulling and sorting. Plus 11am till dark Sunday 29th of July which will hopefuly be a big bike club meeting too. We’d like to talk about different bike projects, and how they can help each other. For instance we are sending kulled stuff africa or to be made into wheelchairs, or to a csrap metaler who is stock pilling bikes for us to choose from and take back to newtown. Fpr more info call jp on 0401447675

What if I only have a small amount of time?

That would be great because every little bit that you can offer will help. Even if it is to come by and say “Hi guys”, provide hugs, and then leave again. We’d really like to spruce things up and get our new system rolling out the Nunnery.

Happy Holidays - look what these guys are doing!

Check out the great website of the amazing Cycle Against the Nuclear Cycle Ride. They’re riding from Rockhampton all the way to Canberra. If you’re wondering what they’re up to, they put it this way:

We are a comunity of people concerned about the false claim that nuclear technology will provide a clean green solution to climate change. We hope to promote truly clean and green energy alternatives, while building a pro-active cycling community and having fun.

How rad is that! So if you’re about to go on holidays and have missed them (like me), don’t worry, it’ll pass through Newcastle/Sydney around the 21st of August. I think we should go and meet them on the train and then do part of the ride with them. It’s only 50km a day, you can see the entire ride itinerary to check what bit you want to do. It’ll be great fun to do the last little bit after they’ve done 2000km :) Who wants to come?

Randwick Council Clean-Up Map & Dates

It’s here! The stuff of bike-fixers’ dreams. You can access it in the Downloads section. During the holidays we should organise some bike-prowling. Interested?

Bike Club Logo!

Alice has designed a fantastic bike club logo.

UNSW Bike Club Logo

Please use it everywhere! I’m going to print out some stickers that people can put on their bikes and also on all the tools (and our lockers), and just about anything really.

If you want to print out a really huge logo and the resolution of this graphic isn’t high enough, I’ve also got a vector graphic which will scale well (but can’t be uploaded to a wordpress blog), tell me if you want it.

You can access the logo (and other files in future) on the Downloads page.

Campus Joy Ride

Dear all bike riders,

This is Adrian from the 2nd year PV, you’ll get a chance to know me
later..hhahha

I was just wondering if we can have a bike ride around UNSW to
celebrate our new
committee members and of course, our bike club~!

Date: 6th or 7th June 2007 ( Wednesday or Thursday of wk14 )
Time: around 4 or 4:30pm ( during busy periods )
Duration: around 30 mins
Trip: starting from Electrical Engineering building then head towards
round
house, ……….head back to library…..
Aim:  Attract everyone around in uni, it would be best to have at least
10-15
bikes in one formation (like gangs~!) with all our back lights and
vests on~!

Please feel free to give more suggestions….
Can someone think of how to promote our club during this bike ride?
banners, A4
papers stick behind our backs…..hahha

Tell us your availability in the comments below!

All the best with your assignments, thesis, projects…
Adrian

All hands on for the new Bike Space!

tombikespace.jpg

Great news - we’ve got interim space for a bike workshop while UNSW decides that it wants to give us more space. We’re sharing the Clubs and Societies store room in Quad 1001. The other clubs can still access their stuff as usual in their shelves and we’ve moved the other junk out (Tharunka editions from the 70s etc, pic below) somewhere else. So now we’ve put in our own shelves and cabinets to hold tools and parts and have started moving in the bikes that have been in hiding (pictured). There’s SOO much more fun stuff to do - paint the walls and a banner to hang over the quad building, install a workbench, make tool boards, make boxes for bike parts and then fill them up and of course - build bikes!

The Workshop is in a perfect location (except for the stairs..), visible from the Quad lawn. We’re going to be there a lot in the next couple of weeks doing it up and generally being excited, drop by and lend a hand!

AGM

The AGM went well. We had 17 people, so it was a genuine one. Election of positions happened, all filled, even some non-compulsory ones:

President: Maurice Wells

Secretary: Thomas Bywater

Treasurer: Jerome Koh

ARC Delegate: Matthew Sharp

Vice President: Alice Blackwood

(other) Clubs Liaison: Chris Moore

ARC Liaison: Scarlett Wilcock

Social Events: Angie Rozali & Jaga Park Ross

AGM May 26, Wed Wk 12, 5pm, Elec Eng Lawn

Hi everyone,

here’s a secret - Bike Club is not actually affiliated with ARC because we haven’t had our AGM yet. So we’d better do that soon so we can get another ARC grant for stuff we need! Also, it would be great to organise other people to do stuff with bike club.

On the Agenda:

Nomination and election of positions, Bike Workshop, Bike Bus, Bike Fleet, Bike Tools, Bike Rides, Funding & Bike Love. All welcome.
